Imagine: You are sitting in a nice bistro at the harbour of a lovely little town in southern France, cherishing a nice cup of coffee with your gorgeous girlfriend, when a loud “BOOOM” suddenly shakes you up.
With disbelief, you look at the boats that are firing up huge rockets of firework into the sky and realise that you have left your camera gear at home. You won’t be surprised to hear that exactly this happened to me yesterday.
The 14th of July is the French national holiday that is celebrated throughout all of France. In La Ciotat, a little town in southern France, the festivities already started on the 13th of July with huge fireworks. They actually announced the fireworks, but I had simply forgotten it again.
So I was sitting quite unknowingly in a bistro, when the show suddenly started.
Luckily, the bistro was not that far away from where we lived. So I ran off as fast as I could and shouted in direction of my girlfriend that I would be back as soon as possible. At home, I grabbed my tripod and my camera and ran back to the bistro, where I got just in time to get a few shots of the fireworks, quite to the amusement of the surrounding watchers.
At least I learned something that evening. Never leave your house without a camera (and a tripod)…
To all the French out there: Bonne fête! Hope you like the pics!
