Weekly Photo Challenge: The Sign Says “Civil Protection”

Hi there, this is my contribution for this week’s photo challenge, for which, according to the daily post, I had to share a photo with a sign and explain what it says.
This sleeve belongs to a Swiss uniform of the civil protection units and shows the international sign of civil protection, a blue triangle on an orange base.

The civil protection’s main task is to ensure the protection and care of the civilian population during an emergency such as floodings, earthquakes or even wars. Luckily, war is a rather unlikely scenario in Switzerland, but floodings or landslides occur every so often. In such events, civil protection will help the population alongside other authorities such as the police, medical services or the fire brigades.

Why have I chosen this picture? As I was quite absorbed the last few days, I could not get outside as much as I would have liked. And when I could, I did not find any funny signs in the city (maybe, I haven’t searched for them good enough).
When the weather got worse and the water lines were rising, the authorities released flood warnings for certain areas in Switzerland. Fortunately, we were spared those heavy floodings that you can witness in other parts of Europe. It was when I read about the mobilisation of civil protection units, that I had the idea to take a shot of their uniform and explain what this blue triangle on an orange base meant. Hope you liked it!
