For this week’s challenge, the daily post challenged photographers to post a picture which illustrates this week’s theme “Saturated”. When I took up photography, I liked to process my images so that they looked like a rainbow vomited on my camera’s sensor. Today, I don’t like oversaturated pictures anymore, even if saturation can sometimes be an effective tool to create an interesting image. So I asked myself the question: “What could I post that illustrates saturation?”
I was toweling the dishes when the idea hit me. My towel had absorbed quite a bit of water and started dripping on the floor. At first, I tried to take a picture of a towel being wringed out. However, the images I took were not that compelling. So I looked for something else that I could fill up with water and eventually came across this yellow sponge.
Similar to the first photo of my 52-Portrait Project (check it out!), I wanted to create a black backdrop so that the main subject or object would stand out. This time, I used two remotely fired flashguns (Canon 600EX-RT and Metz 48 AF-1) to light up the sponge and my hand which was squeezing all the water out of the sponge.
I hope you like my interpretation of this week’s photo challenge and am looking forward to reading your thoughts and comments.
